Two methods for positioning the near corridor horizontally
What is inset?
Inset describes horizontal near-corridor displacement. Durabon's guide presents DuraFit Inset and Core Inset as two methods; their principal difference is the input data used in calculation.
DuraFit Inset: based on actual fitting data
DuraFit Inset uses actual fitting parameters: IPD, fitting height, pantoscopic angle, BVD, frame wrap and near working distance, as listed in the guide.
This method includes fitting data and near-task distance; these inputs must be recorded in the wearer's actual position of use.
Core Inset: based on addition
Core Inset determines inset solely from addition. Its calculation basis therefore differs from the method using actual fitting parameters. Check inset type in each model's own specifications.
Product example in the guide: DualMax
DualMax is listed with 2.5 mm inset, addition 0.50–4.00 D and segment width 24–28 mm. These are DualMax example specifications, not a general DuraFit/Core Inset performance range.
Inset and segment width are separate specifications, both measured in millimetres in this example. Addition is measured in dioptres.
